(click for map etc.)

This talk will attempt to bring a spiritual perspective to bear on contemporary battles to defend essential values against the assaults of government, big business and narrow materialistic thinking, both in the areas covered by this series and in other vital areas of immediate concern. Jeremy Naydler will pursue a line of enquiry that will seek to take us behind the overt campaigns on specific issues to the profound philosophical, spiritual and human issues that seem to be at stake. He will suggest that at a spiritual level there is a struggle taking place for the future of humanity itself, in which, like it or not, we all of us are involved.

Jeremy Naydler, Ph.D., is author of several books on religious life in antiquity and its relevance to us today. His most recent, The Future of the Ancient World: Essays on the History of Consciousness (Inner Traditions, 2009) is due out this Spring. Publications directly relevant to this talk include an essay, "Technology and the Soul" in New View 49 (2008) and an article "The New Crusade Against God", reviewing the work of Richard Dawkins and Daniel Dennett, in Temenos Academy Review 11 (2008). Jeremy is a Fellow of the Temenos Academy and is co-founder of the Jupiter Trust.
