Iona is one of a string of islands in the Inner Hebrides off the northwest coast of Scotland and, geologically, it is remarkable. It is immeasurably older than the other islands and even of most of the dry land of our planet. It is remarkable in many other ways too and is known as a "thin" place spiritually, where the veil between worlds is less dense than elsewhere. Little wonder it draws pilgrims from all over the world.

Her talk will address questions such as: What does it mean to be on both inner and outer pilgrimage? What is it about Iona that is transformative, for it seldom leaves its pilgrims untouched?

Janet Lake has been involved in the pastoral care, counselling and spiritual accompaniment movement since 1970. She has always been committed to exploring how the resources and insights of the spiritual and psychological traditions can be used together creatively in our search for wholeness. She recently moved to Whitchurch Canonicorum in Dorset to become joint founder, with Sue Langdon, of The Pilgimage Community of St. Wite, founded to support those on their inner pilgrimage.
