A Renaissance painting linked to Leonardo and the first-ever Sherlock Holmes story - What could they possibly have in common? The cross references involve sacred geometry and numerology, the symbolism of alchemy and astrology, and the stories of angels and demons as told in the Apocrypha. Separated in time by four hundred years, and yet both picture and story invoke the perennial mysteries of initiation and human destiny.

Julia Cleave is an independent scholar, conducting research into the encoding of hermetic traditions in art and literature.
